Victorian 6 foot restored folding Bagatelle Table
It is sometimes possible to pick up antique Victorian/Edwardian folding bagatelle boards from antique shops or Ebay but they are usually in poor condition and often unplayable. Masters Traditional Games occasionally selects an old Bagatelle table for reconditioning.
A classic example of a folding bagatelle table - medium length at 6 feet which means you can play the game properly but it's also reasonably portable. The table is made from solid Mahogany with brass catches, a lock and inlaid scoring strips along each side. The manufacturer is unknown but the history can be seen all over the now restored exterior. It was probably made in the 1880s or 1890s. This Victorian folding Bagatelle table has been reconditioned by an expert and is now a gorgeous item that is playable and looks fantastic for display. When refurbishing the following is normally undertaken:
- Woodwork repaired and re-polished for a lustrous finish withouth losing the antique character of the table.
- New rubber cushions installed
- Re-covered with new quality woollen baize
- The underneath usually re-covered with the same baize.
- Cups are repaired/replaced and reseated as necessary to ensure that balls easily drop into them
- Brass hinges and lock replaced and/or cleaned up and polished
- The retaining end-plank (seals end and stops contents escaping) restored/replaced
- Original scoring pegs are usually lost so are replaced
This board has a brand new cue and and balls. The cups appear to be original. The key is lost, but the two halves are secured with two hook-catches. Significant scratches are still visibile on the top surface, although the surface has been restored and French polished. Chalk, metal scoring pegs and a full rules are supplied so that play can commence immediately. The table can be viewed/collected from St. Albans or sent by courier.
