Folding Bagatelle Table - North Yorkshire
Here is a beautiful old antique Victorian/Edwardian folding boards that has been restored and is therefore a highly desirable item, indeed. This one is the biggest of all such folding tables - a massive 9 feet long when unfolded which is as long as some of the free-standing slate-bed tables. The table is made from solid Mahogany with inlaid scoring strips along each side and is now a gorgeous article. The table has a lock but there is no key and it is also missing the brass catches (although this could be fixed relatively easily). It probably originally came with a wooden panel to fill the open end when the table is folded but this is also no longer there - however, this will not affect play at all. One of the corners has been slightly damaged as can be seen in the picture of the end of the table below but again this is a minor flaw. The table comes with modern cues and also sufficient balls to play all known Bagatelle games. The cups are all original. The manufacturer is unknown but the history can be seen all over the now beautifully restored exterior. It was probably made in the 1880s or 1890s.
SOLD March 2014
This Victorian folding Bagatelle table has been reconditioned by a craftsman: Primary work effected is as follows:
- Loose woodwork has been repaired
- Woodwork has been polished to give a beautiful new finish
- Re-covered with new baize
- The rubber cushions underneath the baize have all been replaced to give smooth bouncing cushes.
- The underneath has been re-covered with Melton, a type of thick felt.
The table can be viewed and collected from North Yorkshire. Although, it is extremely large, the craftsman has offered to crate it up for UK or overseas delivery if required. So this is a rare opportunity for one of our oversease customers to obtain one of these games. The cost of packing, if required, will be 50 pounds. The cost of delivery will need to be quoted but as an example, sending it to the USA would likely cost several hundred dollars. Sending within the UK should cost less than £25.
