To protect the players and to prevent sticks and dolls flying too far from the playing area, we recommend that a protective backdrop is constructed behind the post. This can be done in a number of ways but often a sheet of canvas, leather, blanket or other impact-absorbing material is suspended from a frame, tree, fence or whatever happens to be available. The sheet should hang 30 inches behind the post.

For tournaments and more serious play, a PVC Polyester Aunt Sally backdrop is available. The sheet comes with eyelets around the edges so that it can be tied to a suitable post or tree with rope (not supplied). The sheet is made in the traditional colours of green with a black dot (made from panama weave material) in the middle.

We cannot supply a frame but the frame can be made in the same way as a football goal and needs to surround the sheet with around 6 inches gap so that the sheet can be tied to it in the manner of a trampoline. A typical frame is 6.5 feet high and 7, 9 or 10 feet wide. The most common size is 6 x 6 feet but if you would like a higher or a wider sheet, these are also available. You must specify orientation because the target spot is always placed at the same height, regardless of the size of the backdrop.

Please note that this product usually has creases due to the way that it is shipped - as shown clearly in the picture. The can be mitigated to a certain extent by warming and flattening the sheet and by hanging it tightly. The backdrop is a practical item and must be folded to store and send so regrettably creases are inevitable.
